Mills College Lokey School of Business Scholarship

Solomon Scholarship

The Solomon Scholarship Fund is intended to assist qualified MBA, MPP, MM (Masters of Management) and Joint Degree (MA/MBA and MPP/MBA) candidates who have been accepted into the Lokey School of Business and Public Policy at Mills College but do not have and are otherwise unable to obtain financial resources to attend.

This fund is named for Winifred Solomon who was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, New York.  Winnie, as she has always been known, graduated high school at age 16 and attended City College of New York with a major in Industrial Management, a very rare concentration for a woman in the 1940's.

She married at age 19 and enjoyed a 61-year marriage to her husband.  They raised two boys near Boston, Massachusetts, and Winnie was always active in local politics and progressive social causes.  Her first full time professional job was as the very first Equal Employment Officer for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. Later she was a Dean (for administration) at the Harvard Divinity School.  Throughout her career and in her professional life, Winnie was a mentor and a role model for young women and men.

In retirement, she and her husband relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she died peacefully in 2016 at the age of 88.

Please review the eligibility requirements and scholarship description on the 10,000 Degrees website.

Joseph James Scholarship

What is the Joseph James Scholarship?

This scholarship program was mandated by the settlement agreement with the CA State Attorney General as a remedy for operating a segregated school and a racially discriminatory educational program.

Who can apply for the scholarship?

Any students who attended Bayside Martin Luther King Academy for 4 or more consecutive months from 8/1/13 to 6/13/19 and;

Are enrolled or enrolling in an accredited college or trade program at least part time.

If you have questions, please reach out to Jin Choi at

2/5/2021: The question tfa_4 is marked as "Conditional" but it appears for all of the tracks, except for Childcare. It has two effects.
  1. It will cause the fieldset tfa_80 to show.
  2. It will cause the fieldset tfa_9 to show.
The question tfa_4 is confusing students because if they were not a part of any programs or if they declined their scholarship in the fall term, then they will typically choose "No".

This does not include attending a workshop or event hosted by 10,000 Degrees
2/5/2021: The question tfa_9624 was added today. It is marked as "Conditional" and shows when students answer "No" to tfa_4. This was added so that students are able to make the question tfa_9 appear because it is actually applicable to them.

2/5/2021: The 10KDSID field section now shows up if either they answer "Yes" to tfa_4, or if they answer "Yes" to tfa_9624.

You can access your 10KDSID by using our ID Retrieval Form to try to find it using your email. This only works for past scholarship recipients or students who participated in one of our programs, like the Summer Intensive or San Francisco programming among others.
